About Us
EquineColorCalculator.com grew out of a simple goal: give breeders, owners, and students an easy way to visualize likely foal colors—without digging through dense genetics charts.
What the calculator does
- Simple inputs, clear outputs: pick the sire and dam colors (or, when known, enter genotype details) to get likely foal color outcomes and notes.
- Genetics-aware: designed to reflect common loci and modifiers used in color discussions (e.g., Extension (E/e), Agouti (A/a), Cream (Cr), Dun (D), Gray, Roan, Pearl, Silver, and white-spotting patterns).
- Educational focus: explains that probabilities are estimates and why multiple outcomes may appear.
How I build
- Accuracy first: model logic favors clarity and conservative assumptions when inputs are unknown.
- Privacy by default: no account needed; inputs are used to compute results and kept minimal.
- Speed & accessibility: responsive UI, keyboard-friendly controls, and readable typography—even on mid-range phones.
Roadmap
- Optional advanced genotype inputs with allele-by-allele toggles.
- Clearer notes for gray/roan and other modifiers that emerge over time.
- Share or export results (CSV/PDF) and print-friendly layouts.
- Glossary and mini-guides for newcomers to coat-color genetics.
Important note
Equine Color Calculator is for education and planning—not guarantees. For definitive results, consult a reputable genetics laboratory or your veterinarian.
